CRBC, May 21, 2020 Update:

Dear CRBC Family,

I am writing today to bring you up to date on current happenings at CRBC.

Firstly, let me express our continued gratitude to you, our church family, for the amazing support of CRBC in this uncertain and unsettling time. You have continued to provide financially for the ministry work that continues, as we seek to stay on our mission, “Leading people to become committed followers of Jesus Christ.” You have been in prayer for our staff and leadership as we seek to Love God and Love People. You have engaged with our Sunday Service @ Home (https://www.crbaptist.bc.ca/), and we hope our online services have been a source of encouragement, blessing and comfort to you and your families. You have been reaching out to one another and have been a blessing in our community. Our Radiant Life ministry has continued to meet physical needs. Several ministries have been able to continue in an online format. We have been praying for you as you seek to follow Jesus in this current world wide situation.

We have been blessed to have Pastor David and Em, ministering to us by way of our Sunday sermons and ministering to our staff and leadership over Zoom and other electronic media. We are so grateful to them both for their care and concern for CRBC. I want to thank them both, as May 24 concludes their time with us. We love you both Pastor David and Em and pray God will continue to use and bless you as you seek to serve him as he calls!

The board has been praying for and seeking an Interim Lead Pastor to be employed on a full time basis, to help lead as we seek the Holy Spirits guidance in regards to a new Lead Pastor. Clearly the current climate and uncertainties around how we operate as a church are outside anything we have experienced and I will confess that leading at this time is difficult and stressful. However with the help of our Fellowship and earnest prayer we are pleased to announce that we have hired Pastor Dwight Geiger who along with his wife Sandra will be joining our staff as our Interim Lead Pastor beginning in early June. They are available to us through to April of 2021 or until God provides a new Lead if sooner. We are working on the logistics. Pastor Dwight and Sandra will be moving to Campbell River to be with us as soon as the logistics allow. They will be maintaining their home base in Crofton, but will be with us most of the time here in Campbell River. Pastor Dwight will be taking the majority of our speaking, leading our staff, and other duties associated with the position. I am most excited that he is willing to help us as a church prepare our hearts as we look to the future and to Gods direction for CRBC. At this time leading looks very different to what we know to be normal. We need your prayers as we meet new challenges day by day.

Making announcements like this by way of letter is obviously not our normal process; communication is always difficult and currently more difficult than normal.

We are grateful to our Lord for his provision again at this time, He is in control, He will continue to lead as we seek his direction. We are grateful for your continued support and patience as we work through these important decisions while we are not able to meet, and operating in a completely different context.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Let me introduce you:

Rev. Dwight and Sandra Geiger

Dwight and Sandra have been married for 43 years and have three married children and enjoy six grandchildren. They were both born and raised on Vancouver Island and have spent most of their married life ministering in rural and suburban churches. With over 30 years of full time pastoral ministry in BC Fellowship Churches primarily on Vancouver Island Dwight has been part of bringing our Fellowship churches into the 21st century as they continue to lead people to love God, love others and serve the city. Dwight has enjoyed pastorates in Armstrong, Port Hardy, Sooke and Saanichton. For the past 5 years he has served as the Director of Operations at our Fellowship Ministry at Camp Qwanoes which reaches thousands of children every year.

As they contemplate retirement they currently have their home base in Crofton, just northeast of Duncan and are excited to return to pastoral ministry in an interim [temporary] role looking forward to opportunities to help churches that are in transition between pastors.

We are excited to welcome them as they take this step of faith and commit to pray for them as they come!

Ministry Updates and Prayer requests:

  • Please continue to pray for Pastor Adrian as he is off on medical leave, pray for peace for him in uncertain times and for wisdom and clarity for his doctors as they work with him. Pray for his family as they support him through this time.
  • Pray for our staff and ministry leaders as they are diligently working in and through our ministries in a completely different context.
  • Pray for our staff as they embark on supporting 5 new small groups that are starting, using a mostly digital format. We praise God for willing leaders and hope to add more and more groups moving forward. We are believing this to be a key format to help maintain and build community.
  • Pray for wise decisions and clarity as we move forward through the governments’ phases of reopening. It is clear that it will be quite some time before we will be meeting corporately. We will assess at each interval, what effect it has on the way we are able to do each ministry we are involved in. Opening our building at this current phase will not be an option for us.
  • Pray for our financial health, that we would make wise decisions under the financial realities of today and the foreseeable increase in unstable financial times for many of our CRBC families.
  • Pray for one another, there is a significant increase in anxiety and mental health issues due to the ongoing pandemic. Love God and Love People. Rely on Gods strength to help you through; his yoke is easy as He takes the burden. Immerse yourself in scripture, His word is our guide and companion.

John 1:4-5

4The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

A special note for Members:

I wanted to extend a special thank you to our membership for your patience and grace as the Board navigates leading at this time. The majority of our board have careers in essential service sectors as defined by the BC government, and two of our board members are on the front lines of health care. As you can imagine the pandemic has stretched our resources. We appreciate your prayers and encouragement. We realize we are operating somewhat out of our governance structure. We were unable to hold our Annual Finance Meeting in March and currently the maximum gathering of 50 is just below our quorum requirement for any possible Annual General Meeting. Our bylaws do not allow for proxy or electronic voting at this time. It may be possible to have our AGM sometime in the summer months, if the law allows. We are diligently watching our financial resources and have limited spending to essentials. It is likely that additional spending restrictions will be implemented moving forward as we expect a long term before we can operate normally. Additional spending cuts may impact at a ministry level, including missions organizations, missionaries, CRCS funding etc. We realize that this will be a concern to you, remember that all missions organizations and missionaries can be directly donated to by those that have the means, see our missions info on our website (https://www.crbaptist.bc.ca/missions). Please continue to pray for us as we lead during this pandemic. We hope to begin the formulation of a Lead Pastor search team soon, and will keep you informed as to any progress.

Ephesians 3:14-21

14When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, 15the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. 16I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to
understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. 20Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. 21Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.

On behalf of the CRBC Board,
Dale Stevens, Board Chair.
