The Church 

Located in the heart of beautiful Campbell River, CRBC is a thriving, multi-generational church family. With a weekly average of 550 people attending in person and 100 joining us online, we are a growing community of around 800 people united by our vision to: “Equipping people to take their next steps with Jesus, transforming our lives and our community.”

The Role

As Executive Pastor, you’ll play a critical role in helping CRBC fulfill its vision. Working closely with the Lead Pastor, you’ll provide strategic oversight and organizational leadership across our ministries. This includes leading staff, developing and executing plans, and carrying out general pastoral responsibilities.

We’re looking for someone who brings a servant heart, strong leadership skills, and a deep alignment with CRBC’s vision and values.

Important Details

The Executive Pastor is accountable to the Lead Pastor. This position is a full-time salaried position and includes health benefits, vacation, and sabbatical policy. Salary will be $65,000 - $80,000, commensurate with experience and education.

THE EXECUTIVE PASTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY: The Executive Pastor is a passionate, strategic leader who will provide the highest level of organizational leadership at Campbell River Baptist Church (CRBC). The Executive Pastor works directly with the Lead Pastor to ensure the vision of the church is implemented through developing and directing plans, overseeing staff, and fulfilling general pastoral duties.

ACCOUNTABILITY: The Executive Pastor reports to the Lead Pastor.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The role of the Executive Pastor is threefold: serve the Lead Pastor, serve the staff, and serve the church.  

In general, the Executive Pastor is to:

  • Support the Lead Pastor in the accomplishment of the church’s vision through ministry evaluation, discernment, decision-making, planning, and developing implementation strategies.
  • Lead the ministry and support staff by providing ongoing support, coaching, and approval of human resource requests.
  • Ensure legal and organizational compliance in accordance with church policies and relevant laws.
  • Serve in the various duties of a pastor, depending on the needs of the church and the gifts of the Executive Pastor.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work with the Lead Pastor to lead CRBC’s overall direction by:
    • Building systems, processes, and supporting organizational structures that allow the church to be effective in reaching its vision. 
    • Facilitating strategic planning: this includes such tasks as establishing and leading the process, preparing the plan, determining how it will be communicated, and providing ongoing evaluation.
    • Preparing appropriate decision profiles of ministries and new initiatives for the Board.
  2. Oversee the staff by:
    • Meeting with the Lead Pastor to plan annual calendar for staff meetings, setting agendas for staff meetings, and providing leadership in meetings.
    • Meeting regularly with each staff member to provide coaching, encouragement, and accountability. Including Sunshine Playschool Director.
    • Assisting with the hiring process of staff.
    • Providing oversight on budgets for appropriate ministry accounts and special projects.
    • Undertaking annual performance assessments of ministry staff.
  3. Operational Oversight:
    • Oversee, staff who are responsible for administrative, financial, and facility operations of the church.
    • Ensure legal and organizational compliance in accordance with church policies and relevant laws.
    • Support the Board by preparing ministry and operational updates and facilitating clear communication between staff and the leadership team.
  4. Other responsibilities:
    • Preaching occasionally (depending on gifting in this area).
    • Other duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

We are seeking a called, competent, and seasoned leader who has demonstrated faithfulness and fruitfulness in a similar setting.

  • A spiritually mature and emotionally intelligent leader with a deep, growing relationship with Jesus and a life that reflects the qualifications of a biblical elder.
  • A servant-hearted leader with a strong commitment to CRBC’s vision and values.
  • 5–10 years of pastoral leadership experience in a large (400+) multi-staff church setting.
  • Proven experience in staff leadership, strategic planning, organizational development, and church systems.
  • Effective communicator with a collaborative leadership style.
  • Formal education is required, with a strong preference for graduate-level training in ministry, theology, leadership, business administration, or a related field.
  • A team builder who thrives in the “second chair” and finds joy in empowering others.
  • Willing to become a member of CRBC and affirm its statement of faith.
