News Updates from South Sudan

“Jesus said to them,

“I am the bread of life;

whoever comes to me shall not hunger,

and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”

John 6: 35

Dear Praying Family & Friends, February 2016

They all wanted to hear the Christmas story. And so during this past Christmas holidays, in our refugee camps, South Sudanese Christians did a drama presentation of the story of Jesus birth with Getachew Tsegaye, our Ethiopian SIM missionary giving a salvation message. Many Ingessana men, women and children (including tribal leaders) came and listened. Those who had already made decisions to follow Jesus, sang songs.

What a precious time it was for our SIM missionaries to see the Holy Spirit moving amongst these people. Thank you for your prayers. Please continue to pray for those who already know Jesus personally, and for those who will someday. Pray for our SIM missionaries, who continue to weekly disciple new believers, and to pray for our Sudanese pastors and believers that they will continue to reach out to those who don’t yet know Jesus and His Christmas story.

This past Home Assignment was great! I am so thankful that I was able to meet with most of you. Thank you so much for your kind hospitality, and for taking time out to visit with me so that I could personally thank you for all your prayers & support for me and my ministry in South Sudan. I feel so very blessed through you.

I left Vancouver on January 16th, arriving in Nairobi, Kenya the following day, in time to attend our annual Spiritual Life Conference in Brackenhurst Conference Centre. This is a time where all of us SIM South Sudan missionaries get together; visiting, encouraging each other, hearing ministry reports, as well as worshiping the Lord together. I felt really blessed this year.

The picture on the right is our SIM Doro Team. I am excited to be starting a new ministry outreach to Sudanese women. I will begin with home visitations and restarting my ladies quilting group. Through my home visits, I want to begin to share the Gospel stories of Jesus with each lady and to pray with them. My prayer is to see each lady grow in their relationship with Jesus. Pray that I will gain more fluency in the Arabic language so that I can speak more clearly. Pray that the Lord will give me wisdom and direction, as I step out to the homes in Doro & beyond. Pray for deeper friendships to develop. Also, pray for receptive hearts; that women will turn their hearts towards the Lord and those who know Him, will grow in their faith. Thank you.

“For you shall go out in joy,

And be led forth in peace…

Instead of the thorn bush the cypress will come up;

And instead of the nettle the myrtle will come up;

and it will be a memorial to the Lord,

for an everlasting sign which will not be cut off.”

Isaiah 55:12-13
