Dear Praying Family & Friends, June 2016

Jesus calls each of us to encourage our fellow Christian Believers until His return. What a joy it has been for me to go to various nearby homes to visit women, especially those who are Believers in Christ. For the past month, I have been discipling one of my Christian neighbor ladies. Naomi is an older woman who just loves the Lord. Even though Naomi has never gone to school and is totally illiterate, she is fluent in both the Mabaan & Arabic languages.

She has a Mabaan New Testament and has studied the few pictures in it. Also, she really listens to the scripture reading and the messages that are given in church each Sunday. Every Saturday I go to Naomi’s house, and with my English & Mabaan Bibles on my lap, I read portions of the Mabaan Bible to her. While I am reading, Naomi is leaning close to me, to hear every word I am saying. She is so hungry to know more of God’s Word. We talk about these scripture passages in the Arabic language (as I don’t know the Mabaan language) and then we pray together. Sometimes, her daughter-in-law joins us. What a privilege it is for me to read God’s Word to her. I am humbled by her thirst to know more of God. Pray for Naomi that her faith will deepen and she will grow closer to the Lord to share the Gospel with others. Pray for God’s wisdom for me.

Every Thursday morning, I am in our Doro health clinic reviewing patient’s health cards for quality diagnosis & treatment and in the afternoons, I give health education to our clinic staff. I am really enjoying my new role as Health Educator for our health clinic staff, as it has kept me close to our Community Health Workers, who I have worked with in the past. I am teaching basic anatomy & physiology with related health diseases & disorders.

I am teaching an ESL class every Saturday for 2 hours. I am taking over for a SIM missionary couple who are on HA for 4-5 months. There are 10 young people who come every week with eager hearts to learn. We are studying verb tenses (present & past tense) with oral reading from the Psalms, as well as short stories. Pray that the Lord will give me opportunities to share the Gospel with those who don’t know Him, as well as to encourage those who are Christian believers.

My informal Arabic language studies are going well and Eliya (Eli), my language helper is a great encouragement. He comes to my house 3 mornings per week. I am reviewing words & verbs that I know, as well as learning loads of new ones too. The real encouragement that I receive is when I am understood by the ladies who I visit each week in their homes (or in the market). God is so very good. Thank you so much for your prayers for me in my language learning. Arabic isn’t easy, but the Sudanese people are so very friendly and helpful. Please continue to pray that I will grow in my vocabulary so that I can communicate well. Thanks.

“Therefore, my beloved brethren,

Be steadfast, immovable,

Always abounding in the work of the Lord,

knowing that in the Lord

your labour is not in vain”

1 Corinthians 15:58

Thank you all so much for your faithful prayers, letters of encouragement & support. They mean so much to me in this precious ministry to the people of South Sudan. God’s blessings to you.

In the Joy of Serving Jesus,

Sandy Ewan
